The Peljesac Peninsula is a wine region on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. It produces some of Croatia’s best-known wines, most notably the weighty Plavac Mali-based reds of the Postup and Dingač appellations. The classic Peljesac Peninsula wine is a powerful, tannicred with gamey, smokey notes and a suggestion of licorice and baked plums.
The mountainous peninsula, which peaks at just over 3150ft (960m), is made up of four municipalities: Orebic, Trpanj, Janjina and Ston. More than 40 miles (65km) long and just four miles wide, it is connected to the Croatian mainland by a tiny strip of land near Ston. This narrow limb of land is located an hour’s drive along the breathtaking coastline northwest of Dubrovnik. The name Pelješac is not that of a town or village, but of a hill above the town Orebic.
